What does this name mean?

This name boasts multiple deep layers of meaning. "Quipu" basically is a technique of "writing" things down and keeping record on resources with the help of strings and knots, historically used by a number of cultures in the region of Andean South America.

It's an interesting metaphor for blockchain, actually. Comparing strings to blocks and knots to bytes. Quipu by all means is an ancestor of the current electronic ledgers and so this name is a respectful historical reference. We don't plan to switch this name in the foreseeable future.

Some people argue that it is hard to memorize and brands shouldn't have such names.

Using this logic, these brands should be renamed ASAP: Schwarzkopf, Schwarzenegger, McDonald’s, Budweiser, Hyundai, L’Oréal, Goldman Sachs, Hewlett Packard, etc.  We think that a product is made not by a name but by the quality.
